Paddy Power (BUY): Q1 2012 – another stellar performance
Paddy Power (€47.33) – BUY - Q1 2012 – another stellar performance
Conclusion & Action: Paddy Power this morning issued a trading update for the first quarter of 2012. Overall a solid Q1 performance, giving us confidence for the year ahead and reaffirming Paddy Power’s position as our top pick in the sector. At P/E and EV/EBITDA multiples of 19.4x (17.4x ex-cash and 1.3x PEG) and 12.0x for FY2012 respectively, Paddy Power continues to trade at a premium to the sector, justified in our view by its clean regulatory profile, the growth trajectory of the Group’s online divisions and its exposure to the high growth Australian market. Our sum-of-the-parts based price target of €56.60 excludes an estimated €3.30 per share contribution from Italy and represents 19.7% upside from current levels. For a more detailed analysis of Paddy Power, please refer to our recent Gaming sector report .

It employs 120 people at its IFSC-based headquarters from where it services a significant client base of High Net Worth Individuals, Irish and International Corporate Customers and Leading Institutional Investors.
Investec Ireland is the Irish-based arm of Investec, the Specialist Banking and Asset Management Group, which is quoted on the London and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges and has a market capitalisation of over £3.4 billion.
Since setting up in Ireland in 2000, Investec Ireland has built up a successful Capital Markets business and has become a leading provider of Treasury Products to Irish Corporates and is a market leader in the Personal Deposit market. Internationally, Investec Ireland has a significant business in the Structured Equities arena. The company currently employs over 110 people in Ireland.
For clients of NCB, the combined business created by this deal will deliver a more diversified product and service offering, broader international access and enhanced financial strength.
Commenting on the announcement of the deal, Conor O'Kelly, CEO, NCB said:
We are delighted to be combining forces with Investec. This is an excellent development for NCB and our clients. The deal will bring together two like-minded and innovative businesses whose operations are very complementary and whose combined experience and expertise will create real added value.
We believe that Investec's balance sheet strength and diversified product offering will resonate very well with existing and prospective clients.
We look forward to working closely with our new colleagues in Investec to leverage the exciting potential we both envisage for our businesses.
Michael Cullen, CEO of Investec Ireland said:
We are delighted to have the opportunity to acquire NCB, a franchise that is long established and well regarded both domestically and internationally. The NCB business will complement our successful capital markets business in Ireland and is consistent with the Group's overall objective to expand its fee based and capital light activities.

The NCB Charity Day was initiated in 2003 when the firm and its staff wanted to make a meaningful contribution to the Special Olympics.
It was decided to donate all revenues received across the firm on a given day to that great cause. The client reaction and the encouragement from employees was so positive that we have made the day an annual event. With your support we have raised almost €2m since 2003 and over 25 charities have benefitted from the funds raised.
Thank you in advance for your support and we look forward to another memorable day for our chosen charities.
